Friday, September 20
We will pull out at 6:00 am from Ingles in Newland and head toward DC. After a little snooze time, we arrive for breakfast at Cracker Barrell in Abingdon, VA . After breakfast, we will have a rest stop and then stop for lunch in Harrisonburg, VA. You will be on your own for lunch, there are several choices. Our next stop around midafternoon, we will arrive at the Hazy Air and Space Museum in Chantilly VA. Some highlights during our visit there will be the Enola Gay, Space Shuttle Discovery and much more. After a couple of hours there, we will head a short distance to our Hotel in Herndon, VA, Embassy Suites. After checking in, you will be on your own for dinner on your own. The rest of the night is free time
Saturday, September 21
After a great complimentary hot breakfast at the hotel, we strike out for DC. Our first stop will be the Marine Corp Memorial where we will see the famous Statute commemorating the Raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. After a short drive, we arrive at Arlington Cemetary. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, Arlington House, and JFK'S gravesite are just some of the highlights there. We plan to walk, but if you have walking difficulties, there is a shuttle that can drive you around. There is a small cost for that if you choose to do it.
Next, we travel over to our nation's Capital for our scheduled guided tour through those great halls. Before our tour, we will have lunch in the Capitol Restaurant. They have several food items for you to choose from.
Then we will walk underground to the Library of Congress and have a short visit to see the beauty of the building.
After walking back to the bus, we make a short stop at the impressive World War 2 Memorial. Then it's on the Pentagon City Mall for Dinner and a little shopping if you want. On the way there, we get some great views of the infamous Pentagon office building.
It's then about a half hour drive back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest.
Sunday, September 22
After breakfast at the hotel, our day begins with a 45-minute drive to the Mt Vernon Estate, home of George Washington. You will have a guided tour through the House of our first president. You will also be able to self-guide yourself around the beautiful grounds. There is also a museum and 4d theater among other things. The admission cost is included. Before we depart, you will be on your own for lunch in the onsite cafe.
DC is our next destination. We will travel there on the picturesque parkway through the historic town of Alexandria on our way to the new World War 1 Memorial. After a short visit, we walk on to the North side of the White House for a great picture op.
Next you will have a moving experience at our tour of the Holocaust Museum.
After this, we travel over to the Jefferson Memorial and then on to see the beautiful FRD Memorial and the impressive MLK Memorial before walking over and to visit the very popular Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam Memorials.
Then it's on to the Hotel for the night. Dinner will be on your own at a local area within a short walking distance. There are several restaurants to choose from. You could also choose to dine at the hotel if you wish.
Monday, September 23
Our first destination in DC today will be the impressive and newly opened Bible Museum. Admission cost is covered. We have around 2 hours or so scheduled there. Afterwards, you will be on your own in the National Mall to visit the Smithsonian's of your choice. There will be 4-5 hours allotted for this. You could walk to the National Mall from the Bible Museum, so if you wanted to spend more time there you could. The most popular Smithsonian Museums would be the American History, and the Natural History. You can also visit the National Archives where you can see the original Constitution, Bill of rights and Declaration of Independence.
Our last stop in DC today will be Ford's Theater (admission covered). We will first visit the museum where you can see the many items related to the life and assassination of Lincoln, including the actual pistol used by John Wilkes Booth. We will get to walk through the theater and see the special box where Lincoln was shot. Afterward you can walk into the Peterson House and see where he died.
We wave goodbye to DC as we head back to the hotel where I will provide pizza and drinks for our last dinner.
Tuesday, September 24
We will sleep a bit later today before we have breakfast and head to the civil War Manassas Battlefield, the site of the most important battles of the war.
After our visit there, we head back toward Avery County. We will stop for lunch at the same place we ate on the way up. After a rest stop, we plan to travel to the Tennessee Welcome Center for snacks and rest. Our last 1-hour drive will bring us back to Ingles in Newland where we should be tired but hopefully have warm thoughts of a great trip.

Hotel accomodations:
Embassy Suites in Herndon, VA. Each room is a suite with a bedroom in one room and a living area in the other room with a desk, couch and chairs. The couch folds out to make a bed if needed. In between the rooms is a sink with refrigerator, microwave, etc. There is a TV in both rooms.
Breakfast is a full hot buffet. If you want anything special, there is a chef that will prepare it for you.

A $100 deposit per person is required. This can be paid at any time. Deposit is non refundable unless I get someone to take your seat.
Final payment refund policy: FINAL PAYMENT DUE BY August 15, 2024. There are no refunds after August 15 unless we have someone to take your seats. If we could do this, you would then be in line for a full refund.
I accept personal checks, Paypal, Cash App or cash in person. For Paypal payments, please add $4 per $100 pd to cover fees. My Cash App username is "wardtours". Checks can be made out to: Ward Tours or Kenny Ward. They can be mailed to me at PO Box 43, Plumtree, NC 28664.
Also, if you wish to pay in installments, that would be fine. You can send any amount you wish monthly or any period you choose. Each time I receive a check from you, I will email you to give you an updated balance.
This Trip involves moderate to strenuous walking at times, although some of it will be at your own discretion.

It is really important for me to have your cell number if you are on the trip. I will send out group texts with information that may be helpful or important. Plus, if you get lost, I will have a better chance to find you!
